Child's Play is a story of the secret wards that Olorae en'Eveil adopted, children born to a demon and sired by a nobleman. It expands upon plotlines only hinted at in game and in other writing.
Chapter One: The Secret[]
Olorae knew her chances of having a child were non-existent; the angel had seen to that with gruesome efficiency. She had resigned herself to being the last heir to the en'Eveil bloodline, she had reconciled with herself that Shilen's will was not to provide her with a child of her own. Was it a sign that the Dark Mother was to be freed soon, that a child would be born only to die in the face of Her fury? Olorae believed it.
But when the twins were born, when the demon had finally been freed of the mortal anchors placed upon her by the Vasper whelp, everything changed. To protect her servitor, Olorae had spirited the children away to the security of her family's compound, safe in the arms of their kin, the shadows and shades that Olorae held in sway. It was her intent to see them raised within their heritage, strengthened by exposure to the world and the knowledge of its people, bolstered by her faith in Shilen.
She and her mate had snuck away as often as they were able, tending the children, easing their cares as the shades could not. There, beneath the nose of the very man who sought her death, Olorae was raising the perfect beings. Infused with Shilen's wrath and the darkness of Gran Kain, mortal in form but immortal in spirit, the children would be at the forefront of the Mother's armies.
The church could not know, as much as it pained her. The Council had too many spies, and she could not risk them being kidnapped, or worse, banished to the Abyss. So it was she could not confide in anyone, other than Sadori, her love for her adopted children.
